A little about me: My name is Lydia McDermott and I am a Visiting Assistant Professor in Women's and Gender Studies, but also an instructor in English. I will be defending my Doctoral Dissertation in Rhetoric and Composition sometime this quarter. You'll probably be able to tell when by how flaky and nervous I seem at that time. Bear with me. My Master's Degree is in creative writing/poetry. So, as you can probably tell, writing is a big part of my life and my education and I also happen to love doing it most of the time. Like everyone, sometimes writing feels like torture when the words just won't come or keep coming out wrong. Other times, I can't put a lid on them and have trouble concentrating on doing anything but writing. My favorite moment in writing is when I surprise myself with some new insight or turn of phrase.
What else should you know? My office is in Lindley Hall (14), so that is where my office hours are located. I invite you to drop in during office hours or to email and schedule a visit some other time that works for you.
Aside from being your instructor, I am teaching two other courses in women's and gender studies. Also I am a mother of three rambunctious and wonderful boys. Therefore, as much as I want to get to know you, please understand that my schedule is very busy and I am not glued to my computer screen or to my phone. Sometimes my family needs my undivided attention. In fact, we have created a family New Year's resolution to not use any electronic media on Sundays. So if you email me Sunday, I won't get to you until Monday.
I look forward to meeting you. Please take a moment to analyze the above image in the comment section and to introduce yourself to me. What should I know about you?
